As the season of Thanksgiving approaches, I am compelled to recognize and be thankful for the workplace safety program the team at CNI Manufacturing has created. A program that helps prevent accidents and fosters a secure environment for us all.

There are many things the team has accomplished over the past year to foster a culture of safety and awareness. For example we have an awareness campaign call “Speak Up For Safety” that recognizes those that stand out when it comes to safety.

We have also been doing a lot of safety training sessions that address specific risks, such as ladder safety or lock out tag out, and fork truck safety. Like true safety champions everyone has embraced the training and put it to good use to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.

Let’s not forget about open communication about safety concerns. From the weekly safety committee meetings, toolbox talks, and near miss reporting our team has fostered a culture where everyone looks out for one another. As I’ve said many times we must all lead by example, and the Marietta team does just that.

I propose that we start a new awareness campaign this holiday season that includes holiday-themed safety slogans. These can serve as memorable reminders for us to stay alert and prioritize safety. Examples include "Feast on safety, not accidents!" and "Thankful for ten fingers, let’s watch those pinch points!" let’s make safety fun.

As we reflect on the things we are thankful for this season, workplace safety should be one of them.
