CNIM Ralph Waldo Emerson - decisions

Let’s be honest: at some point in the last month, most of us have probably cut a corner.

Maybe you were in a rush to hit a deadline, or maybe you just didn’t feel like walking across the floor to grab the right piece of PPE for a "quick" task. We’ve all felt that urge to take a shortcut to save a bit of energy. But I want to challenge everyone at CNI Manufacturing to think hard about the hidden costs of those few saved minutes.

The Ladder Logic

Think about a worker on a ladder. He’s almost done, but there’s one spot just out of reach. He has two choices:

  1. Climb down, move the ladder, and climb back up.
  2. Stretch just a little further and hope for the best.

If he chooses option two and doesn't fall, he thinks he’s won. But he hasn't. He’s just reinforced a habit that will eventually catch up to him. The safe way offers 100% certainty; the shortcut is a roll of the dice.

Why We Train

The safety practices we’ve established here aren’t just red tape. They are designed based on years of experience and industry standards to keep you protected. We take great pride in our safety record, but that record is only as good as the next decision we make.

Ralph Waldo Emerson famously said, “The right decision today shapes the life you will live tomorrow, choose wisely.” Every time you decide to follow the SOP instead of taking the "quick route," you are making a choice to protect your future self.

A Small Price to Pay

If doing things the right way takes a little "extra effort," consider that a small price to pay for your well-being. This isn’t about "true confessions" for past mistakes—it’s about moving forward with a mindset that values safety over speed.

Let’s keep looking out for one another and remember that no shortcut is worth the risk.
